All the answers

Working remotely facing the sea, calling family, watching French TV: on the Costa Brava, it is possible almost everywhere. You just need the right solution for your use and your location.

Internet: fibre, 4G or satellite

Fibre is widely available in towns and coastal developments, with high speeds. In some isolated developments or inland, it may be missing: a 4G or 5G router, or a satellite connection, then takes over. Check coverage before buying if you plan to work remotely; it is a criterion in its own right.

Taking out a contract

The main Spanish providers offer packages combining fibre and mobile. To sign up, you will usually be asked for your NIE, an identity document and a Spanish bank account. Watch out for minimum terms (permanencia), often twelve months: for seasonal use, some no-commitment or prepaid offers are a better fit.

Mobile phone

Thanks to EU rules, your French plan works in Spain at no extra cost during occasional stays. For longer periods, your provider may apply fair-use limits: a Spanish plan then becomes more attractive.

French TV

Channel apps and French internet boxes work for some programmes. Paid online subscriptions generally remain available during a temporary stay in another EU country. Some free channels, however, may block content outside France: test before cancelling anything.

Practical tip

Have the connection installed in the first few weeks after buying: installation waiting times get longer in summer. The other steps to settle in are covered in our article after the signing.

Before buying, ask the seller which provider they use and run a speed test during the viewing. Two minutes that can save a lot of regret.
